Thanks for the review. I think that after DirecTV killed off the HDPC-20, it looks as though we may finally have a way to HD content from a satellite provider into Media Center.

Do not use the Windows Vista Media Center plug in thing that comes with the X360 (Media Connect I think it's called). That has no support for divx or xvid files. Plus, I found it laggy and although it's "prettier" than the below solution, the advantages end there. Instead, install your own uPNP server, which DO support divx and xvid:

TVersity or TwonkyMedia Server (not free) are your best bets. Install the VLC Media Player on your computer first and that'll put in all the codecs you need. You shouldn't have to do any messing around with the registry. Dunno what Transcode and Encode 360 are - but they're not necessary. The X360 dashboard will decode Divx and XVid natively now without having to install anything special on the computer (assuming you have the dashboard update that was pushed out about 9 months ago).

Temporarily disable your Windows firewall while you're messing around with the X360 and uPNP servers (which is what TVersity and Twonky are). This will assist you in figuring out if the problem is network related, codec related, or uPNP server related.

There were a lot, a LOT of iterations of Encode360. From initial script to the first beta was about 2 weeks back in November 2006, with most of the development taking place over the next 6 or so weeks as I really got stuck into how Windows Media Encoder worked and the automation objects. I had very little knowledge of video encoding prior to then, and to be honest, I’m still utterly baffled by most of it :)

As of right now there are a total of 24 themes available on the site. They all look really good although I haven’t tried every one of them yet. Don’t let the issue I’m having take away from what a great and easy to implement idea this is. If I had the programming know-how I could have a different theme every month, season, week, etc.! My issue is most likely the TV Pack and if that’s the case, again, I’ll let you know. If you read the thread at TGB you’ll see that WMCTP is informed and going to take a look. Stay tuned for more info!

Both of those options were not complete in their execution–the blog article which utilized a batch file to launch the shortcut did not play nicely with Media Center, as it refused to launch Boxee over the Media Center screen. The MC Menu Mender worked a bit better, but still had the problem of keeping Media Center minimized after closing Media Center. Quite annoying if you always have to press the green button to launch full screen.
